An Author's Notes in Eventide

(After reading "At Last" By, Elizabeth Akers Allen)

In his eyes I am grace –
a heart fashioned in the light
of the sun.
In his palm I am an angel, my wings:
white lace in rivers, weak in-between
days, flutter-less if only for the moment,
if only for the second it takes for my
walls to collapse beside him.
And I slip like summered fruit into his
giving fingers. Together, hand in hand,
we walk the hours caught between us.
His breath, my gravity as we move
from city to sand.
I am utterly on fire.
And I do not have to say it,
but there is no place that I would
rather be.
He cradles my sadness and all four horizons
shift into orchestrated blue--the wind,
a trumpet beneath the sky.
Excited in our coming, it draws him
to his knees. He whispers “You’re beautiful.”
Scattered seas unfasten and we wash away.

There are too many hours before dusk

(An image of mine)

You are what you love, and not what loves you back

All day I thought I was lonely, was wearing it like a weapon, but I realise that
I was just alone. This is the great distinction of my life, the thing that has had me reaching for door-frames as if the world was falling in on only me. This is what has ruined me.

I do not know how to reconcile these sides of me. I feel a dull sense of duty to the secrets I've pressed into people's open palms, ignoring the fact that they are fractions of me, not them. I want to tell all but I have less and less to say. I am writing a notebook's worth of small character sketches, but the book keeps getting smaller because I rip the pages out every other day and promise to start again.
I want to achieve something, prove to myself that I'm better than a drawer full of balled-up notes and mistreated notebooks. I will finish.
I will finish and fix it all.

things I am forgetting:

- how to talk to you
(I tried my hand at equations, explaining myself through maths, but I got stuck between the cosine and 'both sides must be equal'. I have tasted biology on the tip of your tongue and picked your physics out from between my teeth - chemistry was
why I left and how you stayed, a hairbrush and some gum and a messy bed.

My last hope is dear sweet Desdemona, constant Penelope, two ladies with water in their hair and one who threw herself from the battlements. My last hope is blank verse and comfortable iambic pentameter. My last hope is sibilance and the weight
of punctuation.)

- why I cared, and how, and how much
(nothing feels safe. nothing feels safe. nothing feels safe. nothing feels safe. nothing feels safe. nothing feels safe. nothing feels safe. nothing feels safe. nothing feels safe. nothing)

- why I wrote anything, ever
(that's it, that's all. I am no good)

- promises and bathroom floors
(you were smoking me, weren't you? between your yellow fingers. you just inhaled
and exhaled without saying a word)

-[I have always read 'angels' as 'angles' and I think this explains more than anything else could]

*I am not sure who wrote this, but I truly thought it was wonderfully descriptive.

A Walk Through Winter

(An image I shot in Rhode Island)

Looking back (and dreaming of much cooler weather), I have to wonder what ever brought me to the state of R.I. I know my sister had just died and my heart felt extremely lost. But what I think really held me was the sea. The entire time I was there, I combed the beaches for sea glass, or simply sat and adored the scents and sounds that only the sea can bring forth.

(I miss my sister. For those who never knew, she was hit and killed by a truck as she stopped her car and stepped out. She went to rescue a pup who had just been hit by a car.)

(Moving on to prevent any sadness tonight.)

You know, I was 30 minutes from Boston, and although I told myself I would venture there for photographs, I never did go. I recall how much I wanted to go there when i was around 19. (I even named a black kitten I had found, "Boston").

(This is all randomness tonight.)

I guess I really do not have a lot to say at the moment. The weekend was peaceful--no getting lost in New Jersey, no working in the rain, and no long hours. No nothing. Just a simple weekend of cleaning and messing around. Did I use this weekend to catch up on email, messages, photos, poetry, or even to catch up on sleep? No. :)

My existence

What a long week or so.

(An image I shot last year, while in Philadelphia, Pa.)

I know I do not write in here as often as I used to, but I do try. In the past few days, we have been to Philadelphia, New Jersey, and lost on some highway that ended up on Staten Island. ;)

Funny, it is very hard not to get irritated during such things. Somehow we ended up in Point Pleasant, New Jersey at 2:30 am last night. I just did not care... I was absolutely thrilled to be there again and my heart smiled-- I love the sea so very much.

(A photograph I had shot the last time I was in Point Pleasant.)

Yesterday was very full; we paid our employees, paid bills, ran shopping, and by early afternoon, we were on our way to New Jersey. We were caught in torrential rain (both ways), crazy neighborhoods, and some silly Google map that took us everywhere, but The Raddison Hotel in New Jersey, where we were supposed to meet an old friend. (A wonderful person from San Francisco, by the way.) Since it was after 10 pm by the time we arrived, we found some great restaurant/ bar and enjoyed a quick beer, bite to eat, and some good conversation, before we had to rush off.

When we returned the rental car, I asked, "Have you guys seen Ferris Bueller's Day Off?" They said, yes. I asked, "Remember the scene, where they leave the car keys to the parking garage attendant?" Once more, they said, yes. I then stated that is what we had done to their car. They laughed and we were off. :)

Last week we had gone to Philadelphia for one of our new projects (30,000 square feet of project!). One thing, I did see an excellent photojournalism opportunity on the streets. I am leaning toward black and white "Life" shots.I will try to place that on my "To Do" list. :)

We are also trying to put the 2009 Emmy Awards Suite together. It is trying, but is well worth the time and effort. That will take place in September. We will be in Beverly Hills for a few days then, off to visit some friends and family, and then home again. (I think we might make that a week long trip. That way we can make some time to really relax, as well as, work.) :)

Then right after, the new business will be completely off its feet and going strong. We will be opening an office on Virginia Beach. I look forward to each and every moment during this new experience. One thing about me, I always keep my feet on the ground--I am not too materialistic and I enjoy the simpler things in life. I just love "Love" and being able to wake with a smile each day. Oh... and chocolate, cappuccino, and the sea! ;)

Stefan and I make a great team. :)

Every since he and I have been together (possibly before) he wakes, and the 1st thing he says is, "I love you.". :)

Anyway, we ran around all day today, worked a bit, and are now home. As I stated, what a long week or so.

You know, I must say, as we passed the New York City signs, I so wished we had time to take one of those exits and go see the city. I miss it. We do plan on taking a few days to go and take some photographs. Hopefully soon. :)

All in all, a long week, but a productive one.

Dolce Vita

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
so I love you because I know no other way

than this: where I does not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep.

Everything Spoken Gives Way

I watched the genesis fall
from your eyes. It flowered,
then curled, tugging heart failure
like an existing wound on the verge
of splitting.
You’re not here with me.

I turn my palm, lower it into the sea
as if to clear recollection.
But gray is the blue when grace
becomes flaw; a scatter of swallows along
the gullet, a wash not from the creases of
a hand, but an emptying in a hearts flow
like a rush of release.

To swim here is to execute.

We were standing beneath a patch of cloud,
believed that one breath could keep us;
a sole separation, a train shriek away.
But coming too late, clocks slept their hours
under a mild sun. We never reached destination.

What was it that placed these worlds inside us?

Perhaps an insomniatic moon pulled the white
from our eyes, and had forgotten our dreams
like elucidation hurried beneath the rib cage.
Can’t we find ourselves worthy of resuscitation?

All I know is this, when I uttered valediction into your
ear, (as I have at least once), a thousand black balloons
pressed into the air, tidelands pressed toward the shore,
and I pressed on.

I’m exhausted. I’m in love.

Oh, tell me now of our history again, but sing it complete.
Dismiss language that pains the flesh--unruly words that
tear the insides like a blade that comes again and again.
Speak to me of lavender and garden, of sandcastles
that grew tall in our San Francisco summers.

And although it is trivial,
whisper in my ear of what we passed on our backs.
Was it the sadness of rivers that emptied into the sea?

Perhaps, it was late night tête-à-tête with the unfamiliar,
the voice set mine to flame, where I gradually turned
to ash as I waited at the garden entrance for significance
I didn’t know.

But I think I know where you are going.
What keeps me fastened to these waters is the way
you run off-- a low lying in the fields, a creep along
the beach before desertion. It seems so effortless.

A Walk Through Winter

I shot this image while in Rhode Island.

I think if I ever did step out a moment, it would be for love. If I felt I was losing something so special, I would do everything in my power to keep it whole. Even if it is out of my character. That is what love is all about. You must sacrifice. The thing is, you must not see it that way.

The number one thing in any relationship, is respect. There cannot be any degrading, name calling, dishonesty, or assumptions. We all assume, of course. And our minds can wander at times, but we have to be able to recognize these things and take control. The best part of it all is that we learn. And we never stop learning. Each step is a new growth. If you think you know it all, and need no direction, you have so much to learn.

We continue to learn, even in our eldest ages. And that goes for all in life, not just the art of relationships. In the end, it is what we have seen or felt that really counts. Experience is the only way to learn. To really learn.

And if you are too afraid to take steps, you will only feel the water at your feet--you will never feel the whole of the ocean.

Imagined in a café

... disconnected today (must be my awful headache). Nothing worse than that feeling, I suppose. Not sure if I should go for a walk, or just crawl back into bed for a bit and try to shake it off with a good nap.

Nonetheless,... it will eventually fade (almost everything in life comes to a head, before it slowly fades away).

Sunday News

... nothing to say, but what an utterly beautiful morning so far. This is our first day off in 2 weeks and it feels great. :) Today, we will finish adding tile to our entrance way, add a new shower system to one of the bathrooms, relax, and simply enjoy our day.

(Perhaps, I can bat my lashes and look adorable enough to have Stefan make his delicious chicken gumbo!) :)

Oh and, over the last week or so, I fell in love with Benjamin Moore paints and the Wooster paint brush! Haha! ;)

Summer slips past my lips

(An image I shot in Carmel, California)

What an extremely long month May was--our businesses booming, moving in, gardening, tiling the entrance way, graduations, family, a trip to Atlantic City that fell through, admiring the huge peonies that grow beside our garage, laughing at the rabbits that ate our eggplants, fixing the lawn mower, waiting--always waiting, movies and popcorn, the bird's nest on our front porch as the mother feeds her young, driving--always driving, love, pulling sandstone from the basement for our waterfall, and so much more. Long, but meaningful.

We have not had time to go out and shoot much lately, but hopefully soon. I need to do it for peace of mind--for my inner being. If I do not take some time to get out into nature soon, summer will slip by, and before I know it, it is gone. One thing that just made me smile to myself is that that means autumn will be here. And we all know how autumn touches deeply, my heart. :) I love, love it!

The first thing I thought of this morning was how I wished that today was Sunday, and we could sleep in. :) I am on my 2nd cup of coffee, smiling (although sleepy), and planning on getting up to get ready to go to the job site. Stefan and I discussed our employees and which ones stood out as exceptional, and we spoke on standing beside the one you love through anything. It was a peaceful conversation, full of dreams and the knowledge that we two can always get through things together. That is a good thing. He is beautiful.

Anyway, I need to go for now. I will write more later tonight. Enjoy your day.

-Cher

By the way, I am so backed up in my email and messages, but plan on getting to them very soon. :)

Where color resists erasure

(An image I shot in northern, California)

You speak and my body trembles, blessing the sunset
that illuminates brilliantly against my skin--everything
brushing everything,

where adoration clings to the hem of my dress,
where my heart is made of infant rainbows,

... mostly, a part of you.

Beauty Graces the Pages,...

(A spring image I shot)

... with language meant for two.

And if I should ever cease to speak,
I hope you find all that you have ever
needed, deep within my eyes.

Because, when I look at you, words like
"Love", tangle sweetly on the tip of
my tongue,...

... and all I manage to do is smile.

Do you ever experience things on certain days?

When I glance out my office window (in which is three floors up from my living room) it takes me back to a day when I was a small girl. The rainfall, the look of outdoors, and the scents all place my mind back to Sonoma, Ca.

I was about 7, I think. It was very foggy that morning as I walked out of my Grandma’s home and through a small path in the redwoods. Up on the knoll was a Shetland pony - he was so beautiful. His name was, Dusty.

It started to rain. I wanted to ride so bad, so I climbed up on him and instead of going for a ride; I bent forward and rested my head on his. We sat there in the rain for what seemed like hours. I recall singing to him. (I was such a ding dong.) I sang Puff the Magic Dragon over and over. It was a song my Grandma would sing to me. I recall I would get very sad when she got to the close of the song, but I did not that day - I felt peaceful. And of course, I loved the rain then as much as I do today.

So now, I look out my window and I see that little girl, see the long curls, the skin that seemed to live in calamine lotion, the curious 7 yr old who wore poison oak like a second skin every year. I see the pony and all the dreams that I had and I wonder if I am doing what I had planned then. She wanted to be an oceanographer - and now settles for medicine. She lived to be beside the ocean and still does, but seems when we grow up, we rarely have time for those sorts of things.

This Beauty is Soft

(An image I shot in Carmel, California.)

This beauty is soft -- as if music and wood,
agate, cloth, wheat, peaches the light shines through
had made an ephemeral statue.
And now she sends her freshness out, against the waves.

The sea dabbles at those tanned feet, repeating
their shape, just imprinted in the sand.
And now she is the womanly fire of a rose,
the only bubble the sun and the sea contend against.

Oh, may nothing touch you but the chilly salt!
May not even love disturb that unbroken springtime!
Beautiful woman, echo of the endless foam,

may your statuesque hips in the water make
a new measure -- a swan, a lily --, as you float
your form through that eternal crystal.

-Neruda

Deep within a Softer Spring

His voice, a concerto that runs through my veins.
It is a subtle rainfall caressing lashes tenderly,
until it has strung a stretch of silver clouds
that shiver above the wondrous sea.

During these hours,
I release tension, carry myself towards
the humility that illuminates within his warm
eyes, follow graciously, and slip with pleasure,
perennial into his open and alluring hands.

There, in minimalism, we develop into the devotion
that contains us—an open field of fragrant fiori,
a cordial sanctuary, where spring has left its kiss,
where apprehension and uncertainty subside.

As the Waves Crash the Shore

(An image I took of a couple overlooking San Francisco.)

Sonnet VIII

If your eyes were not the color of the moon,
of a day full [here, interrupted by the baby
waking -- continued about 26
hours later ]
of a day full of clay, and work, and fire,
if even held-in you did not move in agile grace like the air,
if you were not an amber week,

not the yellow moment
when autumn climbs up through the vines;
if you were not that bread the fragrant moon
kneads, sprinkling its flour across the sky,

oh, my dearest, I could not love you so!
But when I hold you I hold everything that is --
sand, time, the tree of the rain,

everything is alive so that I can be alive:
without moving I can see it all:
in your life I see everything that lives.

Google and Cher Ferroggiaro

I am so sleepy, but too tired to go down to the 2nd floor, get a drink of water, brush my teeth, wash my face, and go to bed. (Way too many duties before a good night's rest!) Anyway, so I "Googled" my name (both "Cherilyn" and "Cher") and the one site that should be #1 (my website with my name) is not even in the first 5 or so pages. You would think it would be on top of my search, yes? Funny.

I DID find myself published in places I never knew. Also, I was published in a 2008 edition of a magazine - one I have never heard of, been asked to submit to, or submitted any of my work to. Funny, as well, but in an odd way.

I will have to look more into those places at a later time - I am so sleepy right now.

Goodnight, sweet world.

11 pm and all is well

... not a thing stirring, but me, here in the office. Tonight has ended beautifully, and I am about to go back to bed. My husband held me in bed and told me how much he loved me, we talked a bit, touched hearts, and I left him peacefully on his way to dreamland.

I wanted to write in my blog quickly and check the clothes in the dryer. :) I miss him already and am yawning constantly, but my mind will not let me rest til I write some thoughts.

I am so in love and truly, I am blessed. I say this, and think of all the women in the world that just "settle". I think of the women trapped in a dead end relationship, women whom are lost and not in love with the man they fall to sleep beside, as the curtain of stars covers the night. It is indeed a tragedy.

Again, I am blessed.

Who would have thought that I would marry my best friend,... all of my life I had been waiting for him and never knew. I was strung up in relationships that could not last. I was too trusting and far too blind. All the time, Stefan stood beside me and caught me as I fell. No one could ever take his place. He always wanted to be with me, and deep inside, I felt it too. A lot of men that, either wanted to date me or for some reason felt they should hold my hand, slipped away when I began dating him. I find that so odd, because they swore they would always be there, even as a friend. The way I see it, they never were really friends. The ones that stood by me are still here.

Stefan is the light that everyone can see within my eyes. He says he does not know what he would do without me, but it is I who would be lost. ... he is my very heart and soul.

Goodnight.

Our new home

It is still a mess! We just moved in a week ago and have not had a chance to do much with the new business and all... we have been so busy with the business that we have not truly discovered everything about our new home.

Part of the kitchen. To the right are more cabinets, the fridge, pantry, and an entrance into the dining room. Straight through the kitchen is the open room that leads to the porch, back yard and garage.

Stefan just emailed these images he took along with this note, "Good Morning Lover Bean!

Here's some pix of the house, the one we own together, now doesn't that sound good?! :)

Love you Baby
" :)

He is such a sweetheart.

Anyway, I will upload more as soon as I get a chance. :) I have to go now... have a great day!

Home Sweet Home

I just wanted to quickly update my blog, because Stefan and I have been so busy moving into our new home and have not been online much at all. :)

I will tell you a bit about the home we bought;

... it is 2700 square ft, 2 story with an extra 2 rooms in the attic, it has a garage out back for parking, central heat and air, a very frightening basement ;). plenty of gardening space for flowers, (I hope to have time to plant soon) a huge kitchen with tons of cabinets, 3 bathrooms, a great room off the kitchen, 3 bedrooms, a view of the city from the office, a laundry room upstairs on the 2nd floor, a gorgeous dining room with a chandelier, and a huge front porch with canvas awnings. We are extremely happy to have our first home together.

I just now connected my computer even though we have moved in last Tuesday. :) It is a very busy time for us with the business and all... we have only had one day off, and it was today. We did some unpacking, grocery shopping, and other things all day... and now, wow, I can smell the delicious scents of Stefan's cooking from here in the office, and I cannot wait to sit down and eat a nice home-cooked meal, (especially when my beautiful husband cooks)!

Anyway, I will upload images soon. I did take some with my blackberry, but have not had time to do much with them. I will.

Time to go for now. I wish you all a beautiful week ahead. Sending hugs to each and every one of you.

Cher :)

Fiori in B&N

An image I shot and decided I adored in b/n. There is something so nostalgic within an image without color--a bit mysterious, definitely beautiful. :)

Welcome Spring

Spring is here and love is certainly in the air! May your "opening" of the season be absolutely beautiful!

In other news, our business is off to a wonderful start, we're moving in a week, (I am hoping to open a photography studio there), the cold winter has finally gone away, and each day, I love my husband more and more. What more could you ask for? ;)

Rhode Island

Here is a quick image I took of a hawk in Rhode Island. He was perched on a pier that had half fallen into the sea. I did not want to spook the poor creature too much and the sun was right behind him... that made it a bit hard to get a truly wonderful shot.

(I haven't finished working on it and really want to make the photo top notch. I do not care for it too much at the moment, but just got the full version of Photoshop CS4 and need to make time to look around the program. As soon as I do, I will throw this image in and see what I can do!) :)

On another note, I have no time to write precious little "lovelings" about my Stefan, so I will just add that the first song that plays here in my blog is exactly how he is and what he means to me. I love him and am so fortunate to have him as my husband. In fact, I will tell him how much I am in love with him in a few minutes. :)

Ok, off to start my day! Cya! :)

p.s. sorry for the ultra-quick posting, where my words seem to be everywhere, but I am in a hurry this morning. Perhaps, I will edit it some later today. Eh, probably not! Haha! ;)

Un bacio grande

Wow, what an exhausting week so far! Being business owners, Stefan and I have been busy as bees (and happily so). After we stopped in and helped out our employees, we came home. Not long after, I was off to the hospital for a class to teach as Stefan was taking care of his magazine and such. I think our day ended at around 9:30pm.

I am up again and going to wake my sweetheart in a moment! Sadly, I just realized we are out of coffee. :o The funny thing is, I cannot even see straight yet. Well, not funny, but funny. ;)

Anyway, I wanted to say thank you to a website for featuring a photography album of mine:

Photobucket

I found this sweet symbol in my email this morning and am very honored. The album is under "Travel" and titled. "A Photo Journey". Thank you for all your wonderful support, photography is a great passion of mine.

I have more news to share, but must get in the shower and go grab coffee somewhere, so we can begin our day on 2 feet! I will write more in here as soon as I can.

Have a beautiful day,
Cher

p.s. I also wanted to thank the kind people that leave comments here in my blog or send me an email stating they were here. I will come visit you sometime this week. :)

It is you...

Photobucket

It is you... by ♥ Colpo di fulmine ♥
(Cher Ferroggiaro - du Bois).

(Dedicated to my husband, Stefan.)

He said, "If I should pass from this life before you, the last image I desire to take with me is your beautiful face smiling into my eyes. The last breath I shall want to enter me is yours. You are all that is me, my completion lies within you. My Sweet, I am nothing without you..."

A perfect exchange; my heart for his, where we became ideal, absolute
—merged tenderly to one.

This is an image I shot of the Point Reyes Lighthouse in northern, Ca. If you get a chance, Google the area--it is absolutely gorgeous. :)

In other news, thanks to the 3000 or more people who link to my blog here, whether it be on their website, or on a blog that they run--it makes me smile. I truly appreciate it from the bottom of my heart. And I will be working on getting my 4th book to the publisher by this summer. As you know, it was going to be bilingual, but I have decided to do major edits and publish it in it's entirety, in English.

Sorry that I have not been updating much, but Stefan and I have been very busy with projects and such.

On a closing note, nothing makes my heart smile more than falling asleep each night beside the one I love. :)

I am honored to have my image chosen as "Photo of the Day". If I can make one person smile through my work, I have made my heart smile.

I am grateful. I so love Flickr and all my friends over there.

And I must say, I am extremely happy to see the thousands of followers keeping up on my latest projects. It is a great accomplishment, as well as honor, to have such a huge fan base through-out the years.

Thank you for all you do,
Cher
